About Us
truck bumpers
In today's economy of tremendous business challenges, Fond du Lac Bumper Exchange proudly continues on as a third-generation, family-owned business. The original founder, Rudolph Gneiser, got his start in the auto service industry early in the 1920's by washing cars and taking care of minor mechanical repairs. It wasn't until 1924 that he officially opened the body shop known as Gneiser Fender and Body Shop in Fond du Lac, WI. His reputation as a first-rate repairman, quality auto painter, and upholsterer spread quickly. His motto was: "We will never substitute quality for price."

In the late 1940's Rudy opened a Kaiser-Frazer Automobile dealership; for years he was involved in the sale of new and used vehicles in Fond du Lac. By the 1950's, Rudy's son, David R. Gneiser, joined him in the business and together they opened Fond du Lac Bumper Exchange, Inc. as a recycled chrome bumper distributor (1956).

Gerald (Jerry) Gneiser, Rudy's second son, joined the company in 1969, later buying out his brother, David, who then retired in 1979. Jerry continued to expand and develop Fond du Lac Bumper Exchange, serving as President and providing 25 years of valuable leadership and direction. Jerry retired in 1994, turning control over to his son, David C. Gneiser, who joined the Company in 1989.

David, the new third-generation President, then merged Fond du Lac Bumper Exchange with Dolphin Industries, Inc., his own plastic and rubber bumper recycling company, to form one company maintaining the name Fond du Lac Bumper Exchange, Inc. Today the business provides recycled bumpers and new aftermarket collision repair parts to over 1,700 body shops, auto dealers, and do-it-yourselfers in Wisconsin, northern Illinois, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The Company's vision is to expand its reach throughout the Midwest and to become more involved with recycling of waste materials and developing new aftermarket parts within the industry.

Many things have changed about the Company through three generations of family ownership, but the vision of the founder, Rudy Gneiser, is still true. Quality and reputation for first-rate service will always be the foundations of what Fond du Lac Bumper Exchange stands for. The year 2006 marked 50 years of service to the automotive collision repair industry. Exciting days are ahead as Fond du Lac Bumper Exchange continues to grow and to pursue its mission and vision.
